How to weigh and measure a parcel without scales

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

Why do you need to know the size and weight of your parcels?

Measuring the dimensions and weight of your parcels to the best possible accuracy will not only help you to optimise your cargo space but will also ensure you’re charging the correct amount and not losing money on shipping costs. Measuring your inventory can be time-consuming, but it doesn’t have to be.

How can I measure and weigh my parcels without using scales?

Using scales and a tape measure to determine the dimensions and weight of a package is an old school process now, it’s hugely labour-intensive and is a huge drain on your time and money. Our Resolution range of dimensioners uses revolutionary AI-driven 3D imaging technology to dimension and weigh your parcels or pallets in a fraction of a second. All your warehouse operatives need to do is load the item onto the dimensioning system you choose to integrate. What’s more, we even supply an inline weigh dimensioner, Resolution 5, which can be integrated with a conveyor system for fully-automated dimensioning, data capture and parcel sorting.

When the package is loaded onto the scale or base of the dimensioner, the camera above it will measure and record the dimensions of the package and share this with your Warehouse Management System (WMS) via our custom API, you will also have the option to record images of each item.

What benefits can I expect from automatic dimensioning?

The amount of time you can expect to save is huge. Think how long it will take someone to manually measure and weigh an item, and then record the results individually. This whole process can be automated, allowing you to re-allocate these man hours to areas of the business which are more crucial.

When integrating a Resolution dimensioner, you'll be covering your inventory against possible claims. Say for instance a customer has got in touch and their parcel is either missing or damaged, you will be able to use the dimensioning data and captured images to trace back where and what condition the item was in whilst it was in your warehouse.

Choosing your dimensioning solution can be tricky, you want to make sure you're maximising the impact it will have on your business. Our team are here to discuss all of your possible options.
